BA Sanskrit

Sabdaroopa Daturoopa Parichaya and Pratamadarsa

The study of this course provides a comprehensive foundation in the Sanskrit language, balancing systematic grammar with classical storytelling. It begins with Morphology, covering vowel-ending (Ajanta) and consonant-ending (Halanta) nouns, alongside essential pronouns to build a strong vocabulary. The Verbal System (Dhaturupa) is then explored across the ten grammatical groups and five primary tenses/moods, enabling the construction of complex actions. The second half of the course utilizes R.S. Vadhyar’s "Prathamadarsha," a celebrated primer that transitions from basic object identification to sophisticated moral fables, historical biographies (like Kalidasa), and ethical verses (Nitimandala). Together, these elements equip the learner to read, write, and understand the cultural and ethical nuances of Sanskrit literature.
